Oberammergau 2010 Passion PlaySummer 2010 We know that a lot of people have been enquiring about going to see the famous Passion Play when it comes round next in 2010. The village of Oberammergau is about an hour’s bus ride from our twin town of Schongau and we are planning to make a number of visits that year combining the two places. Tickets for the play will not be available for us to buy until next spring, but we have started preliminary planning for our visits and have some idea of costs for you to consider at this stage. We hope to organise three visits, in June, in August and in September. One visit will be brief, over a weekend, and the others longer, to give us more time to explore the area. We would stay in Schongau, either in a hotel, guest houses or with families and hire a bus to get there from the airport or railway station and to get to Oberammergau and to other places. Ticket prices for the play have been published and there are four categories, priced at 165 Euro, 137.50 Euro, 93.50 Euro and 49.50 Euro. Subject to availability, you will be able to choose your price. Transport costs are of course very volatile at present, but you should probably budget for 450 Euro per head at today’s prices for hotel accommodation and local transport and then there is the cost of a flight or rail ticket. Train travel is now a viable option with the new Eurostar link, either via Brussels or Paris, by day or overnight. About 128 members made the trip the last time in 2000: They all enjoyed it and the play was most impressive, so it's well worth thinking about going. We would like to get an idea of numbers so, if you may be interested, please contact John Smith. |
